The Selina Blouse is a classic mid-to-late 1910s style based on an extant garment. It features a front buttoning blouson bodice, a slightly raised waist with peplum, and the V-neckline and raglan sleeves that became fashionable from late 1913 onwards.
View A is taken directly from the original garment, and has a waistcoat effect front and a 'stand-away' collar.
View B is based on fashion plates showing similar simple raglan sleeved blouses, and has a plain front and no collar, so that it can be worn with a lace or novelty collar.
The faced sleeves ends have a decorative slit, and may be worn long, as shown in View A, or turned back to form cuffs, as shown in View B.
Mix and match collars and fronts, wear the peplum tucked in or worn out, and use contrasting collars and cuff facings for a variety of looks.
The blouse can also be worn with a matching skirt to make a dress in two parts, or attached to a skirt pattern to make a dress.
The Selina Blouse is designed to be worn over a 1910s corset, such as the Rilla Corset, but can also be worn without a corset as a modern garment.
The pattern comes with a full fitting and alterations guide, and suggestions for adapting the pattern for a modern fit.
Recommended Fabrics:
Light to mid-weight fabrics in cottons, linens, silk and wool including: silk crepe de chine, cotton challis; cotton and linen chambray; cotton lawn; cotton voile; lightweight cotton sateen; tropical weight wools; lightweight wool crepe; handkerchief weight linen.
The peplum and collar may be faced in lightweight cotton mull or voile to provide stability to soft, draping fabrics like crepe de chine, or to reduce bulk in blouses made from heavier fashion fabrics. The collar, sleeve facings, and waistcoat side front facing of View A may be in contrast fabric.
Jenni is wearing View A in Size 36 in floral silk chiffon with collar and facings in ivory silk crepe de chine.
Elisabeth is wearing View B in Size 38 in yellow spotted cotton gauze.
Nina is wearing View A in checked cotton shirting with contrast collar and facing in white cotton shirting. Her Selina Blouse has been adapted for modern wear: it has been lengthened 1''/2.5cm in the torso, and graded from a Size 46 in the bust, to a Size 50 in the peplum, to provide a relaxed fit in the waist and hips. She wears it with Eastbourne Trousers.
Averil is wearing View B in Size 38 in cotton voile. Her Selina is styled as a 'dress in two parts': worn tucked in with a matching skirt.
